From the Germantown Telegraph.
Taking into account economy of time, the
method of cutting corn at the roots will
probably recommend itself to most farmers,
although it may cause some deterioration of
value of the stover. Repeated experiments
seem to indicate that as soon as the kernels of
corn become hardened or glazed over, it is
safe and the best time to cut up corn, and
then as a general rule the stalks will be in a
fair condition. If then it is placed in moder-
ately large stacks with the bottoms well
spread to admit of a circulation of air, the
fodder will cure in good condition, and as
soon as the corn is sufficiently hardened may
be carted to the barn and husked.
At husking time is the best time for saving
the seed, for the reason that the selection
can be made of the most perfectly developed
ears of the standard type and also from those
stalks bearing the most and best developed
ears.
In this way there is more likelihood
of obtaining more satisfactory seed than
would be the case to select from the corn bin
at the season of the year when the seed is
wanted. If saved at harvest time and se-
curity protected it is ready whenever wanted.
without trouble.

Method of cutting corn at roots for economy of time, despite possible stover value loss. Cut when kernels harden for best results. Stack in moderately large stacks with bottoms spread for air circulation to cure fodder. Cart to barn and husk when corn hardens. Save seed at husking time by selecting from most developed ears on stalks for better quality than from bin later. If saved at harvest and protected, ready when needed without trouble.
