Sufferers From the Flood
The flood sufferers of the basin of the Mississippi and its tributaries need $5,000,000 in relief funds now. The Red Cross is directing the distribution of relief and aid. Conditions are unprecedented.
Over 100,000 people are without house or home and the necessities of life. Their farms and homes and live stock have been washed away completely. There is danger of epidemics in the regions where the waters are receding. The people of this country have always responded readily and liberally to the Red Cross appeal. Locally several subscriptions have been announced. The sufferers need your help and need it right away.
The following telegram was received by Mrs. J. W. Hanna, secretary for local A. R. C.

The central committee in joint conference with cabinet officers named by President Coolidge to assist Rec Cross estimates minimum of $5,000,000 requested for Red Cross
Relief in Mississippi floods. National campaign is being launched immediately. Your quota is $500, Need most urgent, as hundred thousand refugees look to us for emergency care in the greatest flood in this country's history, confident your people will respond quickly and generously.
Suggest special campaign with widest possible publicity.
Impractical to accept local donations of clothing or supplies. Can we count on you to reach quota?

Chesterfield County Red Cross Chapter is now soliciting contributions to this relief fund. The call comes to every one who reads these words. "Breathes there a man or woman with soul so dead" who will not gladly give to such appalling need?
