CRITICIZES OFFICERS, LOSES HIS DAYS OFF

H. F. Thompson, member of Truck Company No. 1, raised a mournful howl yesterday when he received an order from the department of public safety depriving him of his scheduled days off for six months and fining him $25 for "conduct prejudicial to the good order discipline and efficiency of the Richmond fire department."

Colonel Myers, director of public safety, made it known that the fine and virtual imprisonment was a punishment for remarks attributed to Thompson and criticising the director's action in appointing Assistant Fire Chief I. S. Jones acting chief of the fire department in the absence of Fire Chief Joynes.

Thompson is credited with saying that Assistant Chief Raffo was given a raw deal.

Director Myers pointed out yesterday that Jones ranks next to Joynes and that his appointment to acting chief was automatic.
