"A vessel from Gonaives in 11 days confirms the account of General Toussaint's having taken Mirbalais; further, the quarter of Grand Bois had also fallen into his hands, and he had marched against the town of St. Marc's, which it was expected would fall an easy prey, as the legion of Desource had been annihilated in the attack and defence of Mirbalais.
On the other hand, Gen. Rigaud had marched against Port-au-Prince, and taken, again, Fort Bizoton. The 3000 men, which a letter from Port. au-Prince announced had arrived from England, is reduced, they say, to 300, nearly all French sailors, engaged in England, like those who behaved so well at Quiberon.
A letter from Petit Guave of the 27th March, mentions, that after the advices received from Mr. Adet, Gen. Rigaud gave orders to suspend the payment of all that was then due to the Americans." (Gaz. Francaise.)
