Full Text
The officers of the British ship Virago had made a survey of a route across the Isthmus of Darien, by which they had discovered what they proclaim to be a very practicable route. Mr. William Kennish, of New York, made one of the party. Four of the seamen who were left at one of the ports, while the rest of the party continued the survey, were slain by the Indians. The party continued their examination and measurements till they came to a stream, down which they easily descended in a canoe to the Atlantic, when their provisions gave out, and they returned in eighteen hours to their ship. This route is said to be the most practicable one yet discovered.
