ODD SENTENCE FOR A DRUGGIST.

Must Spend Day in Jail for Every Cent's Worth of Liquor Sold.

Macon, Mo., Aug. 17.--A unique sentence was entered against "Doctor Hoofer, the Nickelton druggist. For each cent's worth of liquor he was charged with selling on May 18 he was sentenced with one day in jail.

Hoofer had been found guilty on several charges of selling liquor without a license, and had appealed from the justice to the circuit court. He concluded that he was fighting an up-hill game and agreed to plead guilty and to go to jail if the sentence was not too stiff.

The prosecuting attorney took the list of medicine sold by Doctor Hoofer on May 28 and found he had sold 35 cents worth of intoxicants and decided Hoofer should be sent to jail for thirty-five days.

Doctor Hoofer accepted the schedule and is now working it out in jail.
