Full Text
Effect Of Retaliation.—Mooney's Express says, speaking of the threatened hanging of Corcoran and other Federal prisoners, in retaliation for the expected execution of the privateers: We cannot tell how much truth there is in this rumor—for it does not come to us in an authentic shape—but if it should turn out to be true, and if the horrid threat be executed, it will do more than anything that has yet occurred to turn away all sympathy from the rebel cause. It will excite indignation throughout the civilized world, and tend to make the hostility of the North more deep and deadly than it has heretofore been.
