The Bunker Hill centennial is to be celebrated at Boston, on Thursday of this week. The event to be commemorated was one of the most important of the war of the revolution-not on account of the numbers engaged, or the results, which were far from satisfactory, but being among the first and demonstrating to the Americans the important fact that they could successfully meet the British regulars in the shock of battle. The enemy here learned that the prowess of the rebels could not be despised. The number of Americans engaged is estimated at 3500 men. Their loss in the battle was a hundred and fifteen killed and missing, thirty-five captured and three hundred and five wounded. The British acknowledged a loss of about 1500. The British gained a nominal victory, owing to the failure of ammunition on our side, but the moral results were entirely with us.

Messrs. Rand, Avery & Co., of Boston have issued a most complete and attractive memorial of the centennial in the form of a journal, the "Bunker Hill Centennial," giving a complete history of the events to be commemorated, with ample illustrations, which will find its way into every New England news depot where it may be obtained. The narration is clear, comprehensive and complete. The illustrations embrace a fac-simile of the original letter from the committee of safety ordering the fortification of Bunker Hill, plan of the city of Boston, representation of the battle itself, portraits, "Star Spangled Banner" in the original handwriting of the author, the monument, and many other interesting illustrations.
