Our county's TAP leaders have met this week and drawn up a full schedule of activities for the January March of Dimes. TAPs, of course, are the young people who run the Teen Age Program of the local chapter of the National Foundation.
They used to be called Teens Against Polio. That was before the success achieved by Dr. Salk's vaccine, when there was no way to prevent paralytic polio. Now both the National Foundation and the TAPs have widened their activities.
The two name changes mark a milestone in medical history. They mean that the National Foundation, with the help and support of Americans of all ages, has attained one goal, a polio vaccine. Today the March of Dimes has new goals in addition to polio: all-out attacks on virus diseases, arthritis and birth defects.
The National Foundation wisely has retained its young people's program. Young people are among its most active and dedicated volunteers.
From what we've seen of our county's TAPs we think they are "tops." After talking with some of the kids working in TAP, we believe those letters stand for Talent.
Ability, Persistence.
The boys and girls in TAP are good-looking. They're hard workers, they're enthusiastic—all of the wonderful qualities we associate with being young and sincere.
