A Back Out.—It will be seen by the following card of our friend and contributor, that he is determined to throw off the burthen of responsibility accruing from his communications and revelations. We are deserted in our most needy hour. But it adds another lesson to our philosophy, and demonstrates beyond an algorithm, the uncertainty of the moods of man.

Dear Sir:—I perceive that you have violated the confidence of private conversation, and with a thoughtless impunity, cast upon the vulgar ear of the scandal loving public, all the little revelations that I have made to enable you the better to proceed in the agreeable task of catering to their morbid appetite, in which you are so laudably engaged.

I wish it distinctly understood by the public that, although I am a forcible and terse writer, I do not seek to build up a reputation in that line. I came to Van Buren to work for a living and have no desire to live upon my wits. I have known smarter men than myself to starve at that business. Therefore as I do not wish to be dragged from the privacy of my humble pursuits, you will please to discontinue the further use of my name, in your editorials; from this out, you may consider that I am not responsible for any thing that may appear in connection with my name.
