Albert Green, a steward in the U. A. M. E. Church, gave a "benefit" social on Saturday night, proceeds to be given to the church. There are several colored youths whose custom is to frequent these places and raise a riot if they cannot have their own way.
About 11:45 Saturday night Harry Bryan and George Harris became engaged in a quarrel on the street in front of the Red Men's Hall where the social was held. Bryan hit Harris.
Johnson White, a fresh young darkey from the lower part of the state, who claimed Harris for his cousin, gives the following account of the fight: "I had on my best Sunday clothes. I run home down Williams street and left 'em pullin' and baulin' in the road. I went in and took off my coat and hat and hunged 'em up and then went back. I wanted to stop 'em from fightin' and I thought Bryan was too much for my cousin, so I struck at him. Then Bryan went home."
Yesterday, Major Herbert issued warrants for the arrest of George Harris, Harry Bryan, Johnson White, Walter Myers, and George Wiley. They were all arrested by Officer Morgan, except Bryan, who could not be found. They were all released except Harris, who was finally let go on his own recognizance, but will be rearrested as soon as Bryan can be found.
