Now comes Mr. Hatch, of Storey county, with a bill entitled "an Act to submit the question: Shall Storey, Lyon, Ormsby and Douglas counties be consolidated' to the electors of Storey, Lyon, Ormsby and Douglas, at the general election of 1898 and to provide for the canvass and certification of the vote thereon."
We have not received yet a printed copy of the bill, and do not know exactly how the vote is proposed to be taken. However, if the vote is to be considered by the majority cast for the proposed consolidation, we want none of it. Storey county and Ormsby can out-vote Lyon and Douglas about two to one, and will vote for the measure, so Lyon might just as well not vote at all. But, if the question is left to the vote in each county whether the consolidation shall be made or not, it is all right. Lyon county will vote no by about ten to one. And this being the case there is no use of submitting such a question to the people.
It should be clear to all, after what has been written and said about boundary lines in the past few years, that Lyon county's desire in the matter is to be left strictly alone. We are in a prosperous condition, and to put us into another county where we will have to help others out of debt is an unjust and unwise thing to do.
