Absentee Votes Are Counted Ballot Is Official

The canvassing board, consisting of County Judge Raymond R. Lord, County Commission Chairman Gerald Saunders and Supervisor of Registration William (Billy) Freeman, counted the 408 absentee ballots filed in Tuesday's second Democratic primary election and certified the official returns last night.

The machine vote totals, the absentee votes cast and the total for each of the main candidates and the referendum are as follows:

Jim Blanton, 1,323, 57, 1,380; Jerry W. Carter, 2,904, 90, 2,994; Ralph E. Cunningham, Jr., 3,998, 111, 4,109; J. Y. Porter, IV, 3,373, 277, 3,650;

Mosquito tax hike, yes, 2,153, 69, 2,222; no, 2,929, 101, 3,030.
