Caught by a huge spike, Irvin S. Hanger hung for four hours Saturday in the rear of the Collins Vehicle Harness company on East Adams St., at Phoenix.
Hanger's hanging was the result of a bet made with J. L. McNew, who is engaged in wrecking the floor of the Collins establishment, that he could crawl down into a hole.
The bet was $2. Hanger got down alright but it was when he started back to the top that he met bad luck.
In ascending, his overalls, which he borrowed for the expedition into the hole, caught on the spike.
Hanger hung. Just the top of his head could be seen as McNew worked for four hours in sawing through the floor. Hanger's friends brought him lunch at the noon hour, but he didn't have much of an appetite.
As a result of the peculiar incident McNew is out four hours work, Hanger won a bet and vows that he never again will go into a dark and unexplored hole. Hanger had to pay for the damaged overalls.
