Encouraging News
It is encouraging to note that St. Johnians, as the people of St. John like to term themselves, are contemplating the idea of a bi-monthly newspaper which may be named The Courier, and of course will be started in a small way.
It is natural and fitting that the idea of a newspaper to help promote the progress and well-being of our fellow citizens there would find lodgement in their minds. They know what it means to have faith, forbearance, and appreciation for those who have tried to help them. But much more spade work needs to be done.
The National Park recently established there will help restore St. John to its former place of importance in the Virgin Islands economy, and a newspaper of its own can make a great contribution.
At the moment there's a religious paper published by the local Baptist Mission which is doing its bit in a spiritual way.
With Senator Moorhead among those taking the initiative on the temporal side we may rest assured the idea will soon take shape and begin to produce that grain of nourishing corn so necessary to real progress.
The task will not be easy with St. John's small population & the distances people live from each other will tend to make the effort somewhat discouraging. But time never was
