MORE THAN THREE MILLION ON ROLL.
Comparative Table of Salaries in First And Second Class Counties.
That Graham county will enter the first-class column this year is now beyond any reasonable doubt.
The assessable property necessary for a first-class county is $3,000,000. It is quite probable that by the time all assessments are adjusted by the Board of Equalization nearly a quarter of a million more than that amount will be on roll.
In the event that we become a first-class county the increase in salaries will amount to $4950. It will be noticed that the duties of clerk of the Board will not be performed by the Recorder and that Superintendent of schools will not be ex-officio of Probate Judge This will prove of great benefit.
The Probate Judge's office should be occupied by an attorney and that of School Superintendent by a school man.
Following is a comparative table of salaries paid. Becoming a first class county does not affect the sheriff's pay:
Second-class. First-class.
Treasurer $1800 $2200
District Attorney 1750 2000
Recorder .. 1800 2000
Assessor .... 1500 2000
Probate Judge. 1200 1200
Supervisor.... 800 1000
Clerk of Board 600 1500
School Supt.. 1500
$8450 $13400
