The board of directors of the Minneapolis Urban League, at the regular meeting held Tuesday afternoon at the YMCA, voted to include the resolution on Carl T. Rowan, board president, in the minutes of the meeting "so that this resolution shall be recorded permanently."
The resolution stated: "the board of directors of the Minneapolis Urban League feels signally honored that the president of this board, Carl T. Rowan, has been named one of the ten outstanding young men in the United States for 1953 by the National Junior Chamber of Commerce."
In responding to the resolution Mr. Rowan said he was pleased that the Jaycees recognized the facts he'd been writing and talking about represented one of the top ten causes in the United States. He further stated that his achievement would never have been possible if it hadn't been for several persons connected with the Minneapolis Tribune who recognized the problems and gave him the opportunity to air his findings.
"Certainly a large share of honor belongs to the paper (Mpls. Trib.) and people such as you who work with me on the Urban League Board," said Mr. Rowan.
Mr. James A. Rye, budget secretary of the Community Chest and Council, was commended by the board for his many years of service and cooperation. Mr. Rye is resigning his position and will be replaced by Mr. Charles King.
