THE WEEKLY ARGUS
REDUCTION IN PRICE.

There never was a time in the history of our country when a greater necessity existed for circulating pure Democratic documents. Radical legislation has made a grave yard and desert of half of our country: our liberties have been infringed upon to an alarming extent. Overwhelmed with debt, and staggering under its load of corruption and imbecility, our government is the scoff and by-word of foreign nations: despised at home and derided abroad, it is hanging on the very brink of destruction. The departure of our people from the glorious precepts of the past, has led them into a labyrinth of anarchy from which many see escape but in a military despotism. The New York Imperialist, founded and supported by the bend-legged aristocracy, is thundering for the establishment of an Empire. Its efforts receive the countenance of high government officials, and the approbation of the manufacturing nabobs of the East. We are rapidly drifting upon breakers which must shatter the stability of the ship of State. There is no hope for the future, save in rousing the people to their duties as citizens, and to a realization of the peril in which their liberties are placed. There is but one way to redeem the country from the demagogues and plunderers who are fast urging it to ruin. The masses must return to the principles of the fathers of the Republic, drive from places of trust the reptiles fattening upon the life blood of the nation, and place in power only those who will administer our affairs with prudence and economy. There must be a change in the government within the next four years. The people must choose between Democracy and imperialism. The struggle has already commenced. The Democratic party will be found, as in the past, battling against monarchical ideas and for the supremacy of the people. Circulate the documents.

With this object in view, we have determined to reduce the price of the Weekly Argus, and hope, thereby, to place it in the hands of every Democrat in the county, and within the reach of every political opponent who may desire to investigate facts and listen to the truth while yet e...
