Sidewalks On Second And Alder
Streets Being Improved

Portions of the sidewalks in the
business district, Second and Alder
streets, will be replaced with concrete
walks and curbs, through a project
with the WPA and an arrangement
with property owners. The work began
this week and will take about
three weeks to complete, according to
James Pollock, local representative for
WPA.

The property owners have agreed
to furnish the material needed while
the WPA will furnish labor and the
concrete mixer. The east side of Second
street, between Green and Alder
and the north side of Alder from the
First National Bank to the Treacy
property are being improved at present
and when this portion is improved
other parts of the street will be torn
up and improved.

It is the present plan of the Mayor
and City Council to widen the streets
four feet and make the sidewalks on
each side of the street two feet narrower.

The sidewalks will be constructed
of concrete, replacing the brick side-
walks that have been down for a number
of years and which have become
uneven and at some places even dangerous.
About ten men are employed
on the project.
