Democrats should produce vice
presidential candidate Lyndon B.
Johnson for an explanation to
Michigan Negroes of his civil
rights record, Rep. Alvin M. Bent-
ley said Sunday.
BENTLEY, Republican candi-
date for United States Senator.
told a predominantly Negro audi-
ence at First Baptist Church, 7642
Gould:
"This is the first time in my
memory that a man seeking the
nation's second highest office was
deliberately kept out of specific
areas to prevent embarrassment
for himself and for his party."
If the Democrats won't produce

voters to demand that he be

BENTLEY SAID Negroes
"should have a clear understand-
ing before Election Day as to
why Johnson voted against such
measures as the anti-lynch law.

tions for Johnson to answer, and
the Democrats know it-that's
why they are keeping him below

win, a man with one of the worst
records in Congress on civil rights
will be only one heartbeat away
from the Presidency."
