Rooney’s Teeth Knocked Out and Lip Cut Open by a Kick from a Horse.
Melville Rooney, of 815 Orchard street, was kicked in the face yesterday by one of a team of horses he was driving, and two of his teeth were kicked out, another broken, and his upper lip split so that it required three stitches to sew it up. Rooney was employed as a teamster by his sister. Yesterday he was hauling brick from the Connell brick yard at No. 5. He was hauling a load of brick yesterday afternoon at 3 o’clock and the team was climbing a steep hill near the brick yard. He was walking alongside the team and reached over to strike the off horse with the whip to spur up the animal. The one nearest him without warning shot out its foot and kicked him in the face. Rooney was knocked senseless and lay along the road for an hour before he was noticed. A carriage was brought and the injured man taken to Dr. Walsh’s office. The doctor found his neck much swollen, making breathing difficult.
