They ordered him to be arrested; but he was so well guarded by the people, they could not do it. However, after the Commissaries came away, a Captain Hammer found means to take him by surprise, and sent him prisoner to the citadel of Fredericks Worms, from whence he is transferred to that of Christiania.
On the first alarm of the imprisonment, some hundreds of the peasants seized the under Bailiff, Dahl, and swore they would not deliver him up alive, unless their chief was liberated. But Major-General Dedrickson, commandant of Christianand, hearing of this, claimed the aid Dahl; and finding they persisted in detaining him, he ordered 80 of the regulars and 300 militia to march with some pieces of artillery, towards Arndal, where they were obliged to fire; but on the first gun going off, and knocking down a tree, the populace ran off and left their prisoner, who was carried to Christianand by the troops.
