2,000-Foot Test On Two
Leggins Dome Near Town
HARDIN—A well to test the oil possibilities of the Two Leggins uplift is being drilled 13 miles southwest of Hardin by Massey Oil company, a closed corporation financed by Hardin investors.
Location of the well is in SW1/4 Sec. 11, Twp. 2S, Range 31E, on an uplift mapped about 20 years ago by U. S. Geological Survey.
Leases of the company cover 11,000 acres of which 9,984 acres are held under government permit, since most of the structure is located on the Crow Indian reservation. The recent geology has been done by Charles M. Massey of Manderson, Wyo., who expects oil production in the Greybull, Dakota and Lakota formations at a maximum depth of 2,000 feet.
Clarence Jones, who drilled the first wells in the Soap Creek oil field in 1921, is drilling for George Jennings and Herman Utiger using Howell rig and standard tools.
One hundred feet of 12-inch surface pipe has been set.
