Full Text

A New Business.—It frequently happens that some of our patrons in the country, with whom we have no personal acquaintance, request us to perform some office for them in the city, make a purchase, look up a teacher, draw a pension, send a book, &c. &c. commissions which we are most happy to execute, and if we ever fail, it is from no want of good will to the errand on which we go; the inconvenience, if any, is very slight, ten times over paid by the pleasure of obliging. Now, whether or not it has got abroad that we are very good natured, and at the same time very successful in doing these errands, we cannot say; but one day last week we received a letter from a gentleman in Chester country, containing a commission and a sort of power of attorney, to find a wife for him. The letter is now before us, and the instructions are ample and particular; he is rich, and she may be poor, he seldom finds fault and insists on good nature. He gives also, an inventory of a pretty good estate, of a kind that makes good thirds, and stipulates only for that moderate degree of affection which he believes will arise out of a respect for his character and conduct. We shall use all our leisure to fulfill this delicate commission. Mean time it may be proper to say, by way of sustaining our business in this particular line, that in common, with other factors, we shall carefully abstain from any speculations on our own account.
