Republican voters in Kansas yesterday rejected Gov. Fred Hall's bid for renomination.
Hall's defeat by State Rep. Warren W. Shaw marked only the second time in a half-century that a Republican governor of Kansas had been denied a chance for a second term.
The campaign that led up to the primary was rated one of the bitterest in Kansas history. One major issue was Hall's veto of a "right-to-work" bill that would have made it unlawful to deny anybody a job for membership or nonmembership in a labor union. Leaders of organized labor in the state backed Hall against Shaw, who favored the bill.
