THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS.—The clerk of the City School Board this morning commenced issuing permits to children to attend the public schools and will be engaged all the week in this task. To-day 470 permits were issued, 285 to white boys, and 185 to white girls. In the city there are thirty-one schools, the teachers being Messrs. T. H. Ficklin and W. H. Greenwell, Mrs. V. Baggett and Misses Summers, Schofield, Nevitt, Sisson and Stoutenberg for white boys; Misses V. E. Clarkson, S. Yates, B. Brockett, M. T. Walsh, V. E. Gregg and M. W. Price for white girls; J. F. Parker, W. H. Madella, P. G. Lumpkins, G. W. Piper and R. D. Lyles for colored boys, and S. A. Gray, C. S. Dulaney, A. B. Ware, E. B. Thompson, F. L. Chapman, M. Darnell and S. J. Decker for colored girls.
