SELF ON IMPORTANT TOPIC
Growing public interest in taxation and the cost of taxes to the individual, is one of the few beneficial effects of recent depressions, is the opinion of Charles Taylor, chairman of the Monroe County Oil Men's Association.
Mr. Taylor expressed the hope that both the growing public interest in taxation and the continuing cost of taxes soon would lead to a revision of the nation's complicated and hopelessly costly tax system.
The old saying that it's an ill-wind which blows nobody good, properly can be applied to recent depressions, Mr. Taylor explained, "which appear to have been beneficial in arousing growing public interest in taxation, and especially in the cost of taxes to the individual. People whose incomes seriously have been curtailed and who find it increasingly difficult to make ends meet, are paying more attention to the high cost of taxes.
"Items in the press indicate that all over the country people are becoming aware of the fact that taxes are costing too much and that something must be done in the way of revision of the nation's complicated and hopelessly costly tax system. The motorist taxpayer, protesting his own high and duplicated taxes, has been joined by thousands of others who have also discovered that the policy of shifting taxes to somebody else cannot be substituted for reduced tax costs as a solution of the tax problem.
"Among the more promising efforts are studies of the costs of government, and of taxes, now being made in several states, in the hope that some way can be found to achieve economies in government operation and thereby permanently reduce tax costs.
Our organization is ready and willing to cooperate in these efforts," Mr. Taylor concluded.
