Full Text

Extract of a letter from Carthagena, dated December 15.

"By letters from Melille, of the 9th instant, we learn that the King of Morocco appeared in person at the head of his army before that place on the 8th in the morning; that he immediately occupied the eminencies, and the day following began to throw some bombs into the town, but at so great a distance as to be of no effect:

"We know not yet the quantity or the calibre of his artillery, of which we have not hitherto seen any but eight or ten pieces of cannon, of about six or eight pounders; and if he has not any larger for making this siege, he will probably fail in his enterprize."
