From the Trenton True American
A NEW SONG.
Yankee Doodle
Let Britain boast her naval power
And threaten how she'll thrash us;
This much we must have learnt before.
Her blustering cannot scare us:
Yankee doodle—Jersey Boys
Will mock her menace'd dangers:
Tho' cannons roar with thund'ring noise,
Their hearts to fear are strangers
The fact is plain as A B C.
Our wrongs must all be righted
However else we disagree,
In this we are united.
Yankee doodle—all will join,
Who boast of patriot blood, sir
Their freedom never to resign,
Nor kiss a Tyrant's rod, sir.
Should Traitors vile our union mar,
They'll well deserve a lathering;
We'll pay them over first with tar.
Then give their coats a feathering
Yankee doodle look about—
Conspiracy, and Treason,
With all their rascal rebel rout,
Should be suppress'd in season.
Let Bunker's hill and Trenton tell.—
With York and Saratoga,
We lack not courage, strength or skill
To scale the heights of glory.!
JERSEY, BOYS—Make ready, then
Your Muskets, Pikes and Rifles,
That when you're call'd to arms to run
You be not stay'd by trifles.
