Council News

The Nome City Council met in special session Tuesday evening as no quorum was available for the regular meeting scheduled for Monday.

Fire Dept. Seven fire calls were reported for the month of August and $162 paid out for volunteer firemen services.

Police Dept. Forty seven arrests were reported for the month with $768 collected in fines.

Sixty six traffic violation notices were posted, 61 of which were warnings.

Health Dept. The Public Health Nurse reported a total of 80 chest X-rays given, one patient sent to a sanitorium, four requests for hospitalization for tuberculosis, 70 school children examined for entry into the first grade.

Proclamation. A proclamation will be made by the mayor it was announced for "Col. Williams Day" Sept. 23 and the City of Nome is inviting Lt. Gen. Joseph H. Atkinson, commanding general Alaskan Command; Maj. Gen. W. M. Miley, commanding general U. S. Army Alaska; Maj. Gen. Geo. R. Acheson, commanding general U.S.A.F., Alaska; Brig. Gen. Donald B. Smith, commander Ladd Air Force Base. The purpose of the observance is to show appreciation to Col. Williams for the fine cooperation with the community during his tour of duty.

Nome Visitors Assn. George R. Goshaw reported that to date there have been 1670 visitors in Nome; 600 military, Air Force and Army personnel, 850 Navy and Coast Guard and merchant marine and about 150 salesmen and others making a total of approximately 3270 visitors during the summer.
