THE INSANITY PLEA.—The St. Louis Republican in speaking of the plea of insanity which is now-a-days almost invariably offered as a defence in murder cases, very shrewdly remarks that a singular feature of this practice is that, while it often acquits the accused of the charge of murder, it never supplies an inmate for an insane asylum. The dangerous lunatic is turned out upon the world, and even his friends who knew him best and have established his insanity are not afraid of him. Georgia is in a most benign condition, respecting this popular practice, and in that State not only hang the man who commits murder under mental aberration, but the man who furnishes the ammunition to the maniac also swings for it.
