was very apparent, and he therefore earnestly advised the Assembly, to pass the item as set down in

the Appropriation Bill.

Mr. Lyons said the Ministerial tactics were to

place things in their worst and improbable light, to

work upon the minds of native members, for the

purpose of carrying their points. If the independence of the Kingdom were in a false position, it

well becomes us to labor to place it on its proper

basis, and not continue on in the spirit of bitter opposition. On motion of Mr. Lyons, the ayes and

noes were called. The vote was taken on the appropriation of $12,000, which was passed. Ayes 28,

Noes, 10.

On motion of Mr. Hitchcock, the Committee rose,

to sit again on Wednesday, and the House adjourned.
