Camden, N. J., March 22.-Work on the new gunboat Princeton which is being built at the South Camden ship yards is being rushed and she will be ready for launching within a week. An extra gang of men have been placed at work on her and she will soon be fitted up and ready for her trial trip.
THE GUNBOAT PRINCETON.
Princeton is of the same class of gunboats as the Newport, the Annapolis, the Wheeling and the Annapolis. Her keel was laid in 1896 and has a displacement of 1,000 tons.
She is built to travel twelve knots per hour. Her main battery consists of six four-inch rapid fire guns and carries secondary batteries of four six-pounders and two one-pounder rapid fire guns. The contract price of the Princeton was $100,000.
