LOUISVILLE, Ky.— When Phi
Beta Sigma Fraternity holds its
annual conclave at Birmingham
December 27th-29th, it will have
as its guest speaker on its "Cul-
tural Hour," Thursday evening at
8 p.m., Attorney Joseph A. Bailey,
noted New York lawyer and civic
leader. Mr. Bailey will use as his
subject the conclave theme—"Sig-
ma's Role In A Changing World."
The New Yorker is also National
Vice-President of Phi Beta Sigma
Fraternity and secretary to Jus-
tice Francis E. Rivers of the City
Court of New York.
Pretentious plans have been made
to make of the 37th anniversary
conclave the most colorful and en-
lightening ever to be held by this
group. Special trains have been
arranged for to pour into Birming-
ham from all sections of the na-
tion with Sigma delegates and vis-
iting brothers.
Thursday's agenda will include
registration of delegates and vis-
iting brothers at 9 a.m., the Gen-
eral Board meeting at 9:30 a.m.,
opening session, presentation of of-
ficers, former officers, members of
the Distinguished Service Chapter,
the Devotions, an afternoon busi-
ness session and the President's
annual message. The "Cultural
Hour" will follow at 8 p.m.
Friday morning's agenda will in-
clude a business session, beginning
at 10 a.m., to include Regional
Directors' and National Officers'
reports. A business session in the
afternoon will consider Under-
graduate Chapters, status, prob-
lems and recommendations; com-
mittee meetings and election of of-
ficers, according to Conclave Chair-
man S. W. Williams. The Con-
clave Grand Ball will be held at
City Auditorium the same evening.
Saturday's agenda will be spear-
headed with a business session, in-
cluding final reports and presenta-
tion of Omega Chapter.
Social affairs, including courte-
sies by Alpha Kappa Alpha, Zeta
Phi Beta, Phi Delta Kappa, Delta
Sigma Theta, Iota Phi Lambda and
Sigma Gamma Rho sororities, and
Alpha Phi Alpha and Kappa Al-
pha Psi fraternities and Sigma
Wives and Sweethearts, have been
planned to intersperse the general
convention program. After ses-
sions sightseeing trips have been
planned, but informal changes in
this activity will depend on time,
so we are informed.
