Turn Them Out
In the fight several members of Congress are preparing to make, to take the Assistant Postmasters out of the protection of the civil service law, they have our hearty endorsement and good wishes for their success and if the newspapers are correct in their statements that the President is opposed to such a course, we feel, with all due respect, that he is making a serious political blunder.
The Democratic party was victorious at the last Presidential election and for our part we think only those in harmony with the principles of that party should be in office, while that party is in power. We know of no better way to express our views than to quote from a recent speech of Congressman Rouse of Kentucky when he said: "I believe when an administration changes men should be appointed to office who believe with the administration and are in accord with its policies. You cannot have first-class service when the principal and assistant entertain different views and do not work in harmony and for the interest of the party which is in power."
