Missionary Movements.

Special efforts are now making, in the Presbyterian churches of this city, in behalf of foreign missions. The subject was presented on Sunday morning, with solemn and affecting interest, by Dr. Anderson, and Rev. Mr. Calhoun, from Syria, in the Mercer street Church.

Mr. C., after describing the great success of missionary efforts among the ridges and valleys of Mt. Lebanon, and the calls for new laborers in that region, said he had visited during the past year the mission at Constantinople. There, although but eleven years ago, they could number only two or three converts, they had now a flourishing church, of about 100, one-tenth of whom were in training for the sacred ministry. These young Christians, mustered at first amid violent persecution, he said, seemed most remarkable for their clear views of salvation through Christ, their entire release from superstitious fears, their decorum and ardor in public worship, their intense concern for souls yet in darkness, and their entire freedom from anything like a sectarian spirit, affording in these respects, a bright example to that nation, and the more favored churches in Christian lands.
