It is a source of regret to us to have to state that on the night previous to the election in this state, some ruffians (we cannot but think) of the whig party, assaulted our office with brick-bats, but fortunately no damage was done, save the smashing of the windows.

Most of the whigs provokingly assert that the Democrats done it for political capital; and we have just as much right to assert that the two fraudulent Van Buren votes that were detected at this precinct, were polled by whigs, in order to bring the democrats into ridicule. One story is equally as probable as the other.
