Only the Federal Bureau of Investigation file in Washington, which has 5,000,000 prints, is larger. The French bureau at Paris has 1,681,784 and famed Scotland Yard in London has only 541,733.
The Michigan bureau was started in 1917, although it was not officially established until the legislature passed the criminal fingerprinting law in 1925.
