Remarkable Fecundity. - The Lancaster
(Pa.) Express says:

We briefly stated on Friday last that a
German, named John Haefller, living in this
city, had on the previous day followed to the
grave his thirty-third child, and that he was
the father of thirty-seven children. Since
then we have learned some further particulars of this remarkable case.

Haefller was married three times. His first marriage took place in Germany when he was twenty-one years of
age. With this wife he had seventeen children. At four successive accouchments
triplets, twice twins, and the last a single
birth. Shortly after the latter event the wife
died. He was again married, and the issue
of the second marriage was fifteen children-
seven times twins and the eighth a single
child. The wife also died shortly after the
last birth. His third and present wife has
thus far presented him with five children, one
at a birth.

The sex of the children were
nineteen boys and eighteen girls, only four
of whom are now living. But whether the
living ones are all issues of the last wife or
part of the previous wives, we have not
ascertained. Haefller is now fifty-two years
of age, of medium size, and of hardy, vigorous constitution. He lives on what is known
as the Factory road, within the city limits.

In some sections of Germany a premium is
awarded married people who produce a
certain number of children. Haefller lived
in that section, and was the recipient of one
hundred guilders previous to leaving. He
apparently labors under the impression that
a similar award awaits him in this country.
If there is any State in the Union providing
for such cases, the authorities had better
send along the greenbacks.
