ANTELLIGENCER.
ROMNEY, SEPTEMBER 20, 1834.
By request we have given in to-day's paper a place to the proceedings of the Jackson Van Buren meeting, held near Martinsburg on the 29th ult. The political state of the Union and the state of parties in Virginia requires examination, and we feel disposed to encourage it by such means as we have in our power. The use of our columns therefore will be opened for fair investigation; & the Van Burenite, the Nullifier, and other partisans may enter freely with their pretensions before the people of the district, and particularly in relation to the candidacy for a seat in the next Congress of the U. States. This is a question which involves considerations of high moment to our district and to the state. The communication signed a "A Constituent" is admitted upon this principle.
John Jenney, Esq. of the county of Loudoun, is named, by several prints, as a suitable person to fill the Speaker's Chair of the next House of Delegates.
A young man named Lodge, was thrown from his horse, near Harper's Ferry, a few days ago, and almost instantly deprived of life.
A Horse died in New York, last week, with every symptom of Cholera.
The Grand Jury of Middlesex (Mass.) have presented Twelve persons, implicated in the burning of the Ursuline Convent.
Late intelligence from New Orleans says "that city never enjoyed a greater degree of health at any period than now."
It is stated in the Baltimore Temperance Herald that there are Eleven Hundred Grog Shops In That City.
