SAYS ALLIES HAVE
IMPOSSIBLE TASK

Headquarters,
Somme
Front.
France, via Berlin and Wireless to
Sayville, Nov. 11. - "The English and
French are faced with an impossible
task on the Somme. They expected
to break through. But every soldier,
every officer and every German gen-
eral knows they can not break
through."

General von Buelow, commander-
in-chief of the German forces on the
Somme, thus spoke today in an in-
terview at his headquarters.

"It is reported they have cavalry
always ready to rush over our lines,"
he continued, "But it is technically
and physically impossible for them
to break through. The battle will
continue for two months, two years
or 200 years, until the English and
French get so much iron pounded
into their heads they can not carry
them."

General von Buelow ridiculed the
British "tanks" or armored motor
cars. He styled them a "fake adver-
tisement" by the British as an ex-
periment: They are not used any
more he said.

Asked as to peace, the general
said:

"We know nothing about peace. So
long as the enemies maintain their
present conditions peace is out of the
question
Our troops will fight on
and on, because they know they are
defending home and country."
