BRENHAM.

A Negro Murders His Former Employer in Cold Blood

Brenham, May 12.- [Special.] -Robert F. Tamplin, a prosperous planter, of the Gay Hill neighborhood, ten miles north west of this town, was shot and instantly killed yesterday in a lane near the residence of Frank Clampitt, by a negro named Frank Smith. Tamplin was in a buggy, and was shot quartering from behind, six or eight buckshot lodging in the shoulder and head. There were no witnesses to the act. Smith had worked for Tamplin three years, and the last year or two for Clampitt.

The murderer escaped. Smith is a mulatto 28 years of age, weight 140 pounds 5 feet 7 inches in height, with a blur in one eye. This was a cold-blooded murder.
