A Big Bogus Industry Exposed.
Mr. Henry White, connected with the United States legation in London, under Minister Lowell, has rendered a useful service to the public. He has published a document relating to the vast supposititious estates in England awaiting the arrival of American heirs with proof of their title to take possession. Mr. White shows that all these estates so called are purely mythical. The Bank of England holds no immense property in trust for unknown heirs, and all the heirs to estates in chancery except some property amounting to about $5,000,000 are known to the legal officers of the British government. Mr. White ascertained these facts by thorough inquiry and they are supported by documentary evidence.
The Jennings estate, to which the American claimants are numerous, was distributed among the known and recognized heirs years ago, and long before any resident in America had put in a claim to a share. The Hyde estate, the Bradford estate, the Horne estate, the Chase estate and other alleged properties have an equally fabulous existence.
The expectations of alleged heirs to unreal English estates, are sustained by fraudulent and blackmail law firms and agencies, who furnish false information in regard to their condition, and collect funds to pay the imaginary expenses of fictitious pending lawsuits for their recovery. It is an immense swindle, and the exposure is a timely one.—Chicago Journal.
