They declare unequivocally for the independent free coinage of the white metal at the ratio to gold of 16 to 1, denounce trusts, and indirectly censure the Administration for permitting its subordinates to be perniciously active in politics. It is reported that the Administration, or goldbug Democrats intend holding a convention later on and will put an opposition ticket in the field. If this be true, it furnishes further proof that the policy of the goldbug Democrats is one of rule or ruin. Yet they have the impudence to denounce the silver Democrats when it is hinted that the latter might deem it their duty to stand by principle rather than by party.
Here is the way the New York Mercury puts it: Let it not be forgotten that the financial destiny of the United States is completely in the hand of a few bankers in this country and in England. And each of these bankers is looking out for himself first and the United States afterward.
It is the purpose of the bimetallists to wrest this control from the money gamblers. The financial policy of this country should be dictated by its people, and not by a band of unscrupulous money-lenders.
