The Ohio Convention. The Ohio Republican Union Convention passed resolutions giving God thanks for the overthrow of the rebellion, lamenting the cruel death of President Lincoln, endorsing the policy of the administration of President Johnson; declaring that four years of sanguinary war demonstrate that slavery and its institutions are irrevocably opposed to freedom and free institutions: that while we are anxious for an early restoration of fraternal relations with the insurgent States, we demand that it shall be upon such terms as will give assurances of peace and security to loyal people and prosperity to the Federal Union.
