Killed the Father of His Sweetheart.

New York, Aug. 8.-Losing his temper because his efforts as a peace-maker did not succeed, Edward Mulvaney, a young man, knocked down and killed his prospective father-in-law, Robert Sealander, a contractor, on Pacific street, Brooklyn, today.
The killing was the outcome of a quarrel between Sealander and his son. Mulvaney, who was calling on Miss Sealander, feared that the disputants would harm each other, and intervened. His plea for peace was not heard and the contractor turned upon him. Argument developed and Mulvaney and Sealander adjourned to the street to settle their quarrel.
Mulvaney struck Sealander a powerful blow on the head, knocking him down. The contractor died shortly afterward. Mulvaney was taken into custody.
