Full Text

Abenaqui Engine Co. - The excursion of our fire company to Rutland, proved to be one of much success and merit, everything during the day having passed off with great satisfaction. That which created the most interest was the playing in the afternoon, which was as follows: - Washington, No. 2, Rutland, Hunneman tub, six inch cylinder and eighteen inch stroke, with 54 men on the brakes, 210 feet: Abenaqui Co., No. 1, Bellows Falls, Hunneman tub, 5 inch cylinder, 15 inch stroke, with 40 men on brakes, 190 feet. Nickwacket No. 1, Rutland, Cowing & Co., Seneca Falls, Piano Machine, 9 inch cylinder, and 7 inch stroke, with 48 men on brakes, 162 feet. This is excellent playing, and our company having thrown higher than has been done at any of the musters in this region, they are fully entitled, though but a young company, just organized, to a place in the first rank of New England firemen.
