A coroner's jury in session this morning at B. E. Lemons' undertaking parlor returned a verdict that Dan Martinez, who was murdered early last Sunday at Calipatria, was shot by a person unknown to the jury.

The name of Federico Ramirez was brought into the questioning of several of Martinez friends and persons who happened to be near the place of the killing but definite evidence as to his possible connection with the shooting could not be obtained.

The inquest was conducted by Coroner B. E. Lemons and chief Deputy District Attorney C. B. Smith.

Ramirez has not been seen since the morning of Martinez's death and according to reports from the sheriff's office the man is believed to have gone to Mexico.
