Cassel, Feb. 20. On the 13th a French Sutler, who had sold to the Soldiers for Sound Meat the Flesh of Cattle that had died of themselves, was stripped to the Waist, tied to a Cart, and was then branded on the Back with the Letters G A L, with a red hot Iron, and in that condition was drove thro' all the Streets in the New and Old Town, and at the End of each received 15 or 20 Stripes.
There is great Mortality among the French in this City; for a Remedy of which the Governor makes the Men march in Battalions with their Knapsacks on their Backs.
