TIN ROOFS.

The experiment has been tried, with favorable results, of covering the roofs of buildings with tin plate; already we behold many fine and valuable buildings which have been covered with this article, and it is only to be regretted that the discovery had not been made at an earlier date. It is quite unfortunate that the State House and the several churches were not roofed in this manner—these elegant buildings have cost large sums of money, and the loss of one or more of them would be very seriously felt by the community. Especially in these days of paper balloons, loaded with fire and fire crackers, is the danger and risk greatly increased. If our citizens in general had been assembled last Thursday evening on the public square, they would have witnessed a spectacle which doubtless would have made them alarmed for the safety of the State House and the Center Church. A balloon was discovered in the air, approaching rapidly from the west, and unfortunately all in flames. Soon afterwards the pan containing the ignited alcohol, cotton, and a quantity of fire crackers, fell between the State House and Center Church, and within a few feet of the latter. I would respectfully suggest whether it would not be best to have the roofs of these buildings tinned without delay, so as to obviate all danger which may arise from the causes above mentioned.
